Job description

Mechanic performs necessary machine work including dismantling, repairing, and reassembling of light and heavy machinery. Installs and repairs gasoline and diesel engines in boats, tugs, passenger vehicles, trucks, cranes. etc. Following specifications; positions engine over mounting holes using chain hoist; bolts engines to mount and straps fuel tank to cradle, using hand tools; connects fuel, oil, and waterlines to engine; installs engine controls. propeller shaft, and propeller; attaches test instruments, such as tachometer and voltmeter to engine; and starts engine and records operating data, such as revolutions per minute and voltage output Installs shop machinery, such as propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gear, working from blueprints and using hand tools, calipers, and micrometers.

Mechanic disassembles defective engines and repairs or replaces damaged parts, using hand tools, disassemble propulsion and steering components, propellers, propellers shafts, rudders and associated bearings and determines usable components and reassembles.

Mechanic installs below deck auxiliaries, such as evaporates, stills, heaters, pumps, conserves, and boilers and connects the system together; tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment during dock and Sea trials: repairs and maintains propulsion engines and other engines and engine parts aboard ship; and makes engine replacement parts.

Essential Functions:

2-3 years' experience as a marine diesel mechanic in a marine environment.

The individual assigned to this MECHANIC position must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to perform the following essential function:

Comprehend blueprints, templates, and Material Safety Data Sheets.

Enter and work in confined spaces.

Manipulate and transport loads of up to 110 pounds over distances of up to SO feet,

approximately 60 times during each 8 hour shift.
