Survey Party Chief

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field surveying operations for commercial and heavy industrial construction projects. This role is responsible for directing the daily activities of the surveying crew, operating surveying equipment, interpreting construction plans, and ensuring accurate collection and reporting of field data.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction stakeout, hands-on surveying experience, and the ability to lead a field crew while maintaining high standards for accuracy, productivity, and safety. Travel to various project locations, including overnight stays, is required as project demands dictate.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the surveying crew at assigned project sites.

Organize field operations, establish work priorities, and ensure surveying tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.

Set up and oversee survey crews at job sites under the direction of a Professional Land Surveyor, job supervisor, or designated manager.

Operate surveying instruments and equipment to collect measurements, coordinates, elevations, and other field data.

Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, plans, and property descriptions to guide field surveying and construction stakeout.

Perform field calculations and review collected data to verify accuracy and identify discrepancies.

Process and organize survey data and submit daily work logs, field notes, and completed survey information to management.

Manage crew schedules, coordinate assignments, and monitor project progress to meet deadlines.

Operate a company vehicle to transport personnel and equipment to and from job sites.

Maintain consistent attendance and communicate effectively with project managers, supervisors, and crew members.

Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies and participate in required safety meetings and jobsite briefings.

Travel to project sites and stay overnight when necessary to support project schedules.
Minimum Qualifications

At least five years of verifiable experience leading a surveying crew on commercial and/or heavy industrial construction stakeout projects.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience operating surveying instruments and collecting field measurements.

Ability to interpret construction plans, drawings, and survey data.

Intermediate math skills, including trigonometry and coordinate geometry.

Ability to read, understand, and verify measurements and perform field calculations.

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage crew assignments, schedules, and daily field operations.

Valid driver's license.

Willingness to travel and stay overnight based on project requirements.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions for up to 100% of the workday.

Stand for extended periods and walk long distances across project sites.

Lift and carry at least 50 pounds.

Bend, stoop, climb ladders, and perform other physical fieldwork as needed.

Drive a company vehicle to and from project sites.
