Delivery Manager

Reports To: Managing Director

Position Summary

The Delivery Manager is responsible for leading all delivery operations within an assigned territory, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused execution of daily routes. This role oversees delivery drivers and support personnel while maintaining high standards for customer service, product quality, DOT compliance, merchandising, vehicle maintenance, and team performance. The Delivery Manager partners with operations and sales leadership to improve service levels, optimize routes, and develop a high-performing delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and supervise Delivery Drivers, Swing Drivers, Helpers, and Merchandisers to ensure safe, efficient, and timely deliveries.
  • Monitor daily delivery operations to ensure excellent customer service, accurate product rotation, merchandising standards, and route execution.
  • Conduct daily team meetings to communicate operational updates, route changes, customer concerns, inventory priorities, and company initiatives.
  • Perform regular ride-alongs and field observations to coach employees and improve productivity, safety, and service quality.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and train delivery personnel in partnership with leadership.
  • Complete performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and address employee performance issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT), company safety, vehicle inspection, and licensing requirements.
  • Monitor accounts receivable collections and ensure company policies are followed.
  • Review staffing levels and daily work assignments, making adjustments to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Recommend and implement route realignments to improve operational performance and service.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all delivery routes and provide route coverage when necessary.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, store managers, and key retail partners.
  • Ensure proper product rotation, freshness, code date management, and removal of damaged or outdated inventory.
  • Coordinate product transfers between accounts when necessary to minimize product loss.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, cleanliness, and servicing of delivery vehicles and company equipment.
  • Investigate delivery incidents, vehicle accidents, and safety concerns while partnering with company safety personnel.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and applicable local, state, federal, and alcoholic beverage regulations.
  • Support special events and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in delivery, transportation, warehouse, beverage distribution, logistics, or route operations.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety practices preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or ability to meet company driving requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hand trucks, dollies, and other material handling equipment throughout the workday.
  • Regularly climb in and out of delivery vehicles.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout extended shifts.
  • Work in varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
