- marine electricians install, service, and repair electrical systems on naval and commercial vessels built at the shipyard.
- They install and link wiring, install power distribution, install lighting, navigation, and communications equipment, and set up all electrical components to safety standards as well as to U.S. Navy or Coast Guard specifications.
- They also perform inspections, check electrical circuits, and fix defective equipment to keep vessels in working and mission-capable condition.
- In addition, marine electricians work with engineers, welders, and other tradesmen to integrate electrical systems into the design of new ships.
Testing procedure outline:
- Take a written test that entails general electrical fundamentals and theory.
- Practical test entailing two 3-Way switches to a light, both switches must operate the light independently.
- Practical test entailing a start-stop motor control circuit hooked to a light, where the start button energizes the circuit illuminating the light until the stop button is pressed de-energizing the circuit and turning off the light.
