FirstFour Staffing is seeking an experienced Chemical / Production Operator for a growing industrial manufacturing facility in Theodore, AL. This is a hands-on role that combines plant operations, process monitoring, computer-based production systems, quality control, and equipment troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working with technology and production data, and able to recognize process changes or equipment issues before they result in downtime or quality concerns. The company is willing to train the right person on its specific equipment and systems.
What You'll Do
Production & Process Monitoring
- Monitor production processes using computer-based control systems, including DCS, SCADA, HMI, PLC, or similar systems.
- Monitor production data, process parameters, and statistical process control information.
- Identify trends, inconsistencies, and process abnormalities.
- Make appropriate process adjustments to maintain production and quality standards.
- Accurately document production readings, process information, and shift activities.
- Communicate operational concerns and updates during shift handoffs.
Hands-On Plant Operations
- Operate and monitor industrial processing equipment, including mills, grinders, classifiers, dryers, blowers, pneumatic systems, crushers, and packaging equipment.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and operational checks.
- Investigate equipment or process issues identified through computer monitoring.
- Work closely with maintenance and other operators to identify the source of mechanical or process problems.
- Collect and prepare material samples and assist with basic quality-control testing.
- Assist with material handling, packaging, shipping, and other plant operations as needed.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and housekeeping activities.
Safety & Teamwork
- Follow all SOPs, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in 5S and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Work effectively with production, maintenance, quality, and supervisory teams.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Production Operator, Chemical Operator, Process Operator, Plant Operator, or similar industrial role.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, chemical, minerals, or industrial environment preferred.
- Experience monitoring production through DCS, SCADA, HMI, PLC, or other computerized process-control systems is highly preferred.
- Strong computer skills and comfort working at a computer workstation for extended periods.
- Microsoft Word and Excel experience preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns and determine the source of problems.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, process documentation, and equipment instructions.
- Ability to read or understand P&IDs and process flow diagrams is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical, vocational, or process-technology education is a plus.
- TWIC Card or experience working in an OSHA-regulated industrial environment is a plus.
- Must be dependable and comfortable working rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Physical Requirements
This is an active industrial position requiring the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Work in a dusty, industrial manufacturing environment.
- Climb stairs and ladders.
- Perform routine equipment inspections throughout the facility.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Transition between computer-based monitoring and hands-on plant operations.
