Shipyard Estimator
$28.00 per hour

Our client in Harahan, LA is looking for a Shipyard Estimator (SE) to coordinate, develop, compile, and submit detailed information required to provide complete and comprehensive estimates of all labor, material, and subcontractor costs associated with assigned projects. SE is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that the Company is fully aware of requirements to successfully bid new construction and repair projects. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, regulatory regulations, prepare material write ups and essential documentation to prepare project estimates. Attend required onboard checks to prepare man hour and material estimates for projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Reads and interprets bid specifications to identify the scope of work.
  • Prepare detailed labor, material and subcontract estimates based on customer requirements.
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying proposed costing and descriptive information.
  • Accomplishes inspections to evaluate and document existing conditions relative to anticipated work identified within the specifications or scope of work by identifying vessel systems, interferences, work requirements, processes and materials.
  • Solicits, reviews, and analyzes Subcontractor and Vendor quotes to assure quoted price, scope and terms comply with schedule and specifications.
  • Works to the timeline established by the customer.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals.
  • Process change orders over the life of a project, and clearly communicate any changes to respective departments.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience working in the Maritime Industry preferably estimating within shipyards, or as a Marine Surveyor.
  • Understanding of marine classification society rules, USCG and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of shipyard best practices and safety procedures
  • Must have excellent leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office software is required in addition to utilization of the Company’s job cost and purchasing software system.
  • Effective time management skills are a must.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel to jobs at different sites.
  • Ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
